A Way For Our Country To Save Money
When a company falls on difficult times, one of the things that seems to happen are they reduce their staff and workers. The remaining workers need to find ways to continue to do a good job or risk that their job would be eliminated as well. Wall street, and the media normally congratulate the CEO for making this type of "tough decision", and his board of directors gives him a big bonus.
I feel our government should not be immune from similar risks. I therefore am recommending the following cuts to be implemented by the next president elect.
Reduce the House of Representatives from the current 435 members to 218 members and Senate members from 100 to 50 (one per State). Also reduce remaining staff by 25%. Accomplish this over the next 8 years. (two steps / two elections) and of course this would require some redistricting.
Some yearly monetary gains include:
$44,108,400 for elimination of base pay for congress. (267 members X $165,200 pay / member / yr.)
$97,175,000 for elimination of the above people's staff. (estimate $1.3 Mil in staff per each member of the House, and $3 Mil in staff per each member of the Senate every year)
$240,294 for the reduction in remaining staff by 25%.
$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork barrel ear-marks each year. (those members who's jobs are gone. Current estimates for total government pork earmarks are at $15 Billion / yr)
The remaining representatives would need to work smarter and would need to improve efficiencies. It might even be in their best interests to work together for the good of our country?
We may also expect that smaller committees might lead to a more efficient resolution of issues as well. It might even be easier to keep track of what your representative is doing.
Congress has more tools available to do their jobs than it had back in 1911 when the current number of representatives was established. (telephone, computers, cell phones to name a few)
Note: Congress did not hesitate to jump on a train for home this week when it was a holiday, when the nation needed a real fix to the economic problems. Also, we have 3 senators that have not been doing their jobs for the past 18+ months (on the campaign trail) and still they all have been accepting full pay. These facts alone support a reduction in senators & congress.
Summary of opportunity:
$ 44,108,400 reduction of congress members.
$282,100,000 for elimination of the reduced house member staff.
$150,000,000 for elimination of reduced senate member staff.
$ 59,675,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining house members.
$ 37,500,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining senate members.
$ 7,500,000,000 reduction in pork added to bills by the reduction of congress members.
$ 8,073,383,400 per year, estimated total savings.
Big business does these types of cuts all the time.
IF you are happy with how our government is right now, just delete this message.
IF you are not happy, I assume you know what to do!

Home improvements|Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling
After being a diesel mechanic/supervisor for the first 17 years of my working career, I changed directions and started a home improvement company.
One of our specialties was Kitchen and bathroom remodeling. A lot lot of people spend money in this area of home improvement as it is on of the best ROI you can do to your home.
The range of price for a bathroom makeover can vary greatly depending how extravagant the homeowner decides to go with the remodel.
You don't have to spend a fortune to spruce up a bathroom and add significant value to your home.
Just putting down some new floor covering , replacing the old counter top and sink with stylish looking cultured marble vanity top and some fresh paint on the vanity can go a long ways towards improving the looks of an outdated bathroom.

Ultralight Airplanes|My T-Bird
This is the first airplane I owned. After I finished my flight training, I knew I had to have my own airplane, I was hooked. My trainer ( Joe) had told me that he had owned a T-Bird prior to the Challenger that he gave me instructions in, and he had all good things to say about the T-bird ultralights.
He said it was one of the toughest built ultralights he had ever had the pleasure of flying and the flight characteristics were very forgiving. I had it in my mind that I wanted the T-Bird.
I looked at the long list of used ultralight planes on the internet and made a lot of phone calls, even went to look at a few of them .
I looked at several used T-Bird ultralights and found that they seemed to hold there value very well. Most of them were priced a lot higher than other brands of ultralights ,even though the kit price was in the same range as the other brands.
So then I contacted Golden Circle Air and got all the details on buying it new as a kit and how long they thought it would take someone to build it. I bought it as a kit in Nov., 2000, went to Iowa in a van and picked it up.
I spent about 2 months building the plane working on it most weekends and sometimes during the week in the afternoon when I got off work. My T-Bird made it's first flight in Feb. 2001.
I've bought several used ultralights since I built my T-Bird. I own 3 now ,actually they aren't ultralights anymore since the FAA changed the ruling on 2 place ultralight trainers all 2 place ultralights have to be registered and inspected . They are classified as light sport .
I've always done all the work on my own planes and even converted the T-Bird to light sport , but that's another story.

Nothing Else Left
Well this is gonna be a tough one . Exactly how far can you get with a blog when there's Nothing Else Left. One would think that if there really was nothing else left ,,why even bother ,,hell might as well just give up on the whole idea ,Right?
But you see I'm an optimist ,,I don't really believe there is nothing else left , I just think I was having trouble seeing it for what it really was at the time ,, which was a really good title to work with ,,something I could mold into what I wanted it to be. Now a lot of time has passed since I created this first blog. I've made a few new blogs since then and just left this one sitting in the background ,,not really knowing what to do with it ,,not really caring ,, Well today I opened it up and was looking around and I thought ,,Hey ,,what if I give it a new paint job ,,,spruce it up a little bit ,,Might even add some chrome ,, who knows ,,It might could look pretty good. Isn't that really how it all gets started ,,just a pile of rust sitting in the back yard, thinking maybe I'll sell it ,,nah, I'll just hold on to it ,I might have time to work on it Some Day.
Well today Is that day ,,and I know it'll take time and a lot of work to turn it around but ,I got time and I'm not scared of work , So now that I've drug it up to the shop ,might as well get to work on it and see just what I can do with it when there's nothing else left.
